Greg’s debriefing went slower than usual. The Professor took way too long to prepare Greg for debriefing. It was as if Greg was catching up on all the things that had happened, from the point he left to the point Task Force One rescued Greg.
The Professor finally left the room and signaled that it was my turn to debrief Greg. Janelle stood there at the doorway watched Greg with his head down, whimpering. She almost had been fooled until she saw the smirking smile on the face of Greg. She burst up laughing, Greg joined in.
It was amazing how a situation, as such, could be made so joyful when Greg was around. He was a never failing friend of joy.
The Shadow had grown very tired of this charade with the Professor. The Shadow wiped the sword off and threw it down in the alley by his main lab. The Shadow grew very impatient with his workers and decided that tomorrow would come the day of reckoning. The Shadow slide a dial to the left on a machine and the UPT weapon hybrid came to life ready to select its next target.
Miss White had a bountiful career. She had positioned herself as the number one Security Expert for every floor but the fifth floor of the Empire State Building. She was the top dog, and there was nothing anyone can say against it. She would be sure to not let a disaster occur on her watch. She would instill fear into the eyes of every criminal hearted terrorist that walked in. She wasn’t racist or sexiest. She hated equally and instilled fear into all men, woman, and children.
Mr. Bones had walked into the room, “Dearest Sole Reaper of this humble establishment.”
“Quit it Jon! I’m not in the mood.”
“Here I am making, No groveling for an audience at your feet.”
She crossed into the hallway to patrol the staircase. ‘The cleanest part of town is the worst’ she would say. The stairs were heavily patrolled by wondering Sky Eyes and was as clean as any unused part of the Empire State Building could be. It was pristine.
“What do you want Jon?”
Jon passed into the corridor and entered the stairs behind her. He noticed all the camera lenses were propped nice into the ceiling and noticed the lack of a mid-day work smell.
“Where’s the smell?”
“What smell. If you are going to go on about that mid-day smell again… I’m goanna skin you Jonathon!”
“But honey.”
Many wonder how a beast, a man-eater like Miss White, could have such a darling man. Mr. Bones was titled for not yet having made the gesture that would confine Miss White to marriage for eternity. He was tall, and clean cut American. Well at least in the eyes of Miss White, not in the eyes of others around him. Some said he looked like an average Joe, whose haircut would not fit with the rest of his head, which did not fit on his shoulders.
Miss White smirked at him, and gave the expected reply.
“Don’t you honey me, dearest?”
Miss White was not old, but had dressed herself as such to instill the dread of a hag running security. When she was home, and had returned to a sane and joyful life, she sparkled in all the latest beauty products and wore elegant clothing. If you would have seen Mr. Bones and Miss White together you would have asked how a Joe-Smoe could wind up with one of the most gorgeous examples of female form and grace. She was the very picture perfect definition of beauty, when she wasn’t busy instilling the terror of her claws into her clients and could be terrorists.
“Oh but…”
“What do you want, or else I will gladly drop you off this buildings highest floor. You might survive, but chances are you won’t!”
She walked back to the position she was and entered the next set of hallways. Patrolling and instilling fear to the hearty criminals that made their job at Alice’s Technology and Research. There tag line, ‘Let’s see how far the rabbit hole goes.’
“Hey baby,”
“Jon you better make it snappy, I’m feeling gun happy.”
“You’re glowing?”
“What… You are lying, or are you trying to win my sympathies for you lack of engagement on my b-“
“Dam Caroline that’s personal.”
A reverent walked by, looked at them in disgust and walked to the elevator. He smiled back and slightly motioned an apology for his distasteful look earlier. He pushed floor one and left the building.
“You’re glowing!”
He was right. Miss White had begun glowing and sparkling. Soon the floor began joining her. Mr. Bones began glowing a little.
“Oh my, God!”
Mr. Bones’s began to panic as the entire floor began glowing and sparkling. People were petrified and began jumping off the level onto the incoming traffic below. No one would survive.
The floors began glowing. People at their office workstation would stop and watch as the Green Screens began glowing a shade of off yellow and their shirt began sparking purple. Executives began drinking coffee that had an awful taste and a yellowish tint. Maintenance workers began seeing toner flowing over the air as they worked on several printers. The elevator ceased to function.
Soon people were rushing down the pristine clean areas of the staircase. Miss White, hit an emergency panic button on her Palm Pilot that sent the footage in live feed over to EGT Headquarters in Buffalo.
The only employee at the Lobby at HQ sent this over through the tunnel to Bermuda One. The professor quickly grabbed a wireless connector and ran into the room where Janelle was integrating Greg. Janelle began to look distasteful at Professor Karros until the screen went on and she beheld what was going on.
People were pouring out of the emperor state building, falling from the top most levels. The glowing began to brighten and people began screaming wildly. It was not a good sight. Police had pulled up and fireman began pulling people out of the building as fast as possible.
It was too late. The onsite EGT News Helicopter flew by the top part of the building, so close to the building you could stick your hand out and touch it. The building grew to a fine yellow glow and was sucked up to nothingness.
The results were devastating, far more people were killed by this disaster than anyone in New York City has ever known, with the exception of the 9/11 attacks. The land where the Empire State Building lay a ground-zero look with live electric wiring and plumbing that was cauterized by the massive electric pull of the dimensional rift. The rift that had formed inside Miss White was almost undetectable and unseen except from the visual side effects.
The Shadow smirked as he moved his hand from the firing button. The yellow and sparkle was just for show, just to instill horror into everyone. It worked.
